Overview Our client is a well-established, privately held steel fabrication and erection company looking to hire for their estimating team due to continued growth. They specialize in structural steel design, engineering, detailing, fabrication, erection, and retrofitting of existing structural members. The role is for a Steel Estimator with experience in miscellaneous metals, responsible for accurate and competitive estimates.
Responsibilities
Analyzing blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Assessing cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
Consulting with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Conducting special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
Reviewing material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
Preparing estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
Accurately inputting costs for proposals and performing an accurate and detailed estimate from drawings for small to large miscellaneous metal projects.
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Steel Estimator or in a similar role in the construction industry.
Extensive knowledge and experience with steel and miscellaneous metals.
Proficiency in blueprint reading and project estimation.
The ability to determine material and labor costs accurately.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
A keen eye for detail and a results‑driven approach.
Proficiency in using computer software for developing estimates.
A degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Certification from a recognized professional body is a plus.
