
Interior Designer - Entry to Mid Level (Maryland)

Job Summary
NSA seeks a skilled Interior Designer to support facilities design, guidance, and support the development and implementation of commercial solutions that enable mission‑driven interior capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct facilities planning, space programming, and code analysis.
Develop furniture layouts, specifications, and design packages, including cost estimates and project schedules.
Create designs for new and renovated commercial facilities.
Provide construction detailing and design safety plans.
Manage project schedules, budgets, and team coordination.
Conduct multidisciplinary project reviews and teaming.
Select architectural, interior design, and furniture materials and finishes.
Lead project teams and manage multiple projects under compressed schedules.
Qualifications and Experience
Problem solving, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, partnering/collaboration.
Customer service, accountability, continual learning, resilience, effective communication, creativity, flexibility.
Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD, space planning (commercial office & hospitality), interior design and planning, construction technology/management, various contract mechanisms.
Experience with analysis, design, construction, national/local code compliance, design safety plans, life‑cycle maintenance of installations, facilities, and furniture projects.
Education Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field. If the program is not Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited, it must include the following coursework:
Drafting
Architectural drawing and rendering
Computer‑aided design
Intro to interior design
Architectural lighting or environmental controls
Building construction and methods
Construction documents
Design and the built environment
History of architecture
History of furniture
Sustainable design
Design and visual culture
Visual form
Photoshop for interiors
Graphic presentation
Construction materials and finishes
Interior design business practices
Life safety codes for interiors
Benefits Salary range: $57,736 - $133,142 (Entry/Developmental – Full Performance). Salary affected by education and experience, and work level. NSA offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Work schedule: Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 8‑hour/day with flexible hours between 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
DCIPS trial period: Two years for standard appointments and one year for veterans’ preference‑eligible employees. Completion of the trial period determines continued employment.
Position requires Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance and pre‑employment drug testing.
