
Strategy & Communications Social Media Intern

Mid‑Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Strategy & Communications Social Media Intern to join our Strategy and Communications department. This position is a full‑time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity primarily remote with required in‑person activities, including orientation in New Carrollton, Maryland, and weekly onsite work at the Capitol Hill regional office in Washington, D.C. Please note, this position is ineligible for benefits. The summer internship programme typically runs for about 12 weeks between May 29th and August 14th, with the potential to extend beyond August. You can expect to:
Develop engaging content for social media platforms that support MAPMG’s digital communications and public relations initiatives.
Prepare graphics, short‑form social videos, and written content that promote physician expertise, healthcare education, and organizational initiatives.
Partner with communications professionals and physician subject matter experts to research trending healthcare topics and create relevant content.
Provide support in conceptualizing, scripting, producing and promoting Healthier You podcast episodes.
Provide support in developing graphic templates and visual assets for use across social media channels.
Lead or assist with the creation of news briefs and digital communications that support broader communications campaigns.
Oversee or support the coordination of social media projects, including occasional on‑site content capture at regional medical centres.
Administer research and coordination support for communications campaigns and digital engagement initiatives.
What is required:
Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field; recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program.
Must be available to work full‑time, 40 hours a week, for a typical internship duration of approximately 12 weeks between May and August, with potential for extension.
Previous experience in social media management, digital communications, or marketing is a plus.
Specific project/work experience: Interest or coursework related to social media strategy, digital storytelling, healthcare communications, or public relations.
Experience with social media platforms, content creation tools, and presentation software is preferred.
Design, photography, and video editing skills are preferred but not required.
Exceptional attention to detail, creativity, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
Must be able to attend in‑person orientation in New Carrollton, Maryland, and work onsite each Tuesday at the Capitol Hill regional office in Washington, D.C.
Must be available for occasional off‑site social media projects at medical centres in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan area.
Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2‑dose series (or J&J 1‑dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1‑dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
