Job Title Assistant Editor

The Role Assistant Editors play a critical role in ensuring a seamless and efficient peer review process through active pipeline management. Their skills and experience will ensure they are best placed to identify any potential challenges, and will be able to identify solutions, working alongside the journal Editors, to ensure peer review is conducted efficiently and to the highest quality and integrity. They will work in collaboration with Editors to ensure the journal brands and reputations are upheld, through high level policy adherence throughout key stages of the workflow.
Role Responsibilities
Work with Editors to ensure Authors are supported to meet the publishing needs of the journals, and authors can adhere to editorial policy and compliance.
Responsible for managing journal pipelines, by processing manuscripts from submission through to final decision.
Support Editors throughout the process, creating excellent working relationships.
Act as a point of contact for authors throughout the manuscript journal, building relationships and trust in our processes, striving to improve author satisfaction.
Collaborate and build rapport with Journal editorial staff for continuous improvement/updates and new initiatives in the process.
Handle email correspondence between the various parties involved in the publication process; (Authors, Reviewers, Editors, Guest editors, Readers, etc. for the assigned manuscript).
Mentor and support new team members.
Provide inputs on improving the process to reduce TAT and manage pipeline at various stages of the editorial process.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
1 year within Scientific Publishing (desirable)
Good understanding of Publishing process and Peer review systems
Excellent communication Skills (written and verbal English)
Subject matter expertise (STEM)– Medicine/Life/Physical Science (desirable)
Strong analytical and logical reasoning ability
Customer service and business communication experience
Experience in manuscript handling will be an added advantage
