This position will be Hybrid in the office/market 4 days per week. The Denver Business Journal is looking for an experienced reporter to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate brings exceptional journalism and storytelling skills, including source building, sharp news judgment and analytical and investigative reporting experience. These skills will be put to the test on one of our most valuable beats: economic development. This area of coverage involves reporting on economic drivers such as the airport, as well as monitoring access to capital, area competitiveness and workforce issues. Coverage will often touch the banking, legal and health care industries and involve tracking economic development organizations. A member of our reporting team, this position serves as an example for others in the areas of interviewing, research and clear and balanced writing. This reporter will produce articles accompanied by perspective and context for an engaged audience of entrepreneurs, business owners, executives and professionals in one of the nation’s most vibrant economic regions. We expect this reporter to go well beyond the press releases, news conferences and obvious stories to break news and explore the big-picture trends impacting the business community in the Denver area — positively and negatively. Responsibilities

Contribute both short- and long-form stories to our news products online and in print. Own the beat, dictating day-to-day coverage and thriving on digging out source-driven exclusives. Relentlessly develop sources and manage relationships with high-level executives and other community leaders. Scoop competitors on every story of any significance, not only telling them what happened, but why and how. Use networking events, social media platforms and other community-building outlets to expand and fortify a source base and audience. Attend newsgathering activities, interview opportunities and events in the community as needed. Work collaboratively with other newsroom staffers to maximize the impact and accessibility of stories reported. Meet or exceed goals related to audience engagement. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Five or more years of reporting experience. Proven experience building and maintaining an active audience and a strong source base. Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure. Knowledge of business principles is essential. Proven excellence in reporting and writing, balancing daily and long-term assignments. Desire and ability to break news and to identify newsworthy events and sources. Strong analytical and investigative interviewing skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Ability to relate comfortably to a wide range of people, in person, on the phone and online. Motivation to develop sources and build an audience. Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors. Denver community experience is a plus. Comfort with on-stage or on-camera presentations is helpful. Benefits
