State Street Chicago, Illinois 60601 WLS General Assignment Reporter Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States Employment Type: Full time Job Summary ABC7/WLS, the ABC Owned Television station in Chicago, IL, seeks an energetic and dynamic general assignment reporter. The role requires a journalist who can authentically engage and connect with our audience, working collaboratively with producers, assignment editors, and newsroom leaders. Reporters will cover all platforms and dayparts—including early mornings, nights, and weekends—ensuring stories meet the station’s high standards of integrity and production quality. Responsibilities & Duties On‑air performance Researching, writing, and reporting stories for multiple platforms on deadline Qualification Basic Qualifications Exceptional reporting, writing, and interviewing skills Ability to source and generate impactful enterprise leads using investigative tools, including data journalism Tenacity in uncovering stories through investigation and research Expertise in telling high‑impact stories and in breaking news coverage, demonstrated in the field Capability to report, write, capture visual content, edit, and produce stories for owned, distributed digital, streaming, and social platforms on deadline Active use of social media for promotion and news gathering Ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms Collaborative self‑starter whose work meets journalistic integrity and production quality standards Strong commitment to the community, expected to represent the station and participate at community events Must be open to working early mornings, nights, and weekends Preferred Qualifications Minimum 3 years of reporting experience in a large market Knowledge of shooting and editing Required Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with a preferred emphasis in journalism or a related field Pay and Benefits The pay rate for this role in Chicago, IL is $55.29 to $79.33 per hour, with the base pay actually offered varying according to geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
