Consulting Manager
USA: Chicago, IL or San Diego, CA (Hybrid) MGO is seeking a Consulting Manager to join our growing consulting practice. This leadership role will oversee complex engagements involving financial due diligence, forensic accounting, fraud investigations, litigation support, and financial accounting and reporting advisory services. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, strong project management capabilities, and proven experience leading teams and advising clients on high-impact, complex matters. As a Consulting Manager, you will be responsible for managing client relationships, supervising engagement teams, ensuring technical excellence, and delivering actionable insights that help clients navigate transactions, disputes, compliance challenges, and financial reporting risks. Essential Duties: Lead and manage financial due diligence engagements related to mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions, including oversight of quality of earnings and financial statement analyses. Direct fraud investigations and forensic accounting engagements, including scoping, execution, review of analyses, and presentation of findings. Oversee litigation support services such as damages analysis, expert witness support, report preparation, and discovery assistance. Serve as a primary client contact, managing expectations, timelines, budgets, and deliverables across multiple engagements. Review and approve engagement workpapers, analyses, memoranda, and client-ready deliverables to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with professional standards. Collaborate with Partners and senior leadership on engagement planning, risk management, and practice development initiatives. Participate in client meetings and presentations, articulating complex financial, accounting, and forensic concepts to executive-level stakeholders. Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory developments, and forensic methodologies, and apply relevant guidance to client engagements. Financial Accounting & Reporting Responsibilities: Provide leadership-level financial accounting analysis, including review of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Evaluate financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP, identifying accounting issues, reporting risks, and control gaps. Advise clients on accounting policies, estimates, and judgments related to complex transactions, disputes, and regulatory matters. Oversee accounting-related analyses as part of forensic, due diligence, and advisory engagements, ensuring appropriate application of accounting standards. Support clients with month-end and year-end close considerations in the context of investigations, transactions, or compliance projects. Assess internal controls over financial reporting and provide recommendations for process improvements and risk mitigation. Coordinate with audit, tax, and advisory teams to deliver integrated, high-quality client solutions. People Leadership & Development: Manage, coach, and mentor Senior Consultants and Consultants, providing ongoing performance feedback and professional development guidance. Review staff work and provide technical and developmental feedback to support growth and engagement quality. Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training initiatives within the consulting practice. Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment consistent with MGO's values and culture. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. CPA required; CFE, CISA, or other relevant certifications strongly preferred. 6+ years of experience in forensic accounting, financial due diligence, litigation support, financial accounting, or advisory services within a public accounting or consulting environment. Advanced understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial accounting, and financial reporting. Demonstrated experience leading engagements, managing teams, and mentoring junior professionals. Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-financial audiences. Success Factors: Experience in a public accounting firm or advisory consulting environment. Exposure to expert witness support or regulatory matters. Strong client service orientation and relationship management skills. Proven ability to lead teams and drive engagement success.
