About the Role The City of Norfolk is seeking a Multimedia Communications Specialist to assist the Manager of Visitor Marketing in producing content across print, web, social media, photography, and video to promote The Slover and its public offerings. Primary Responsibilities Create original content (video, photography, social media, website, etc.) that promotes and informs city services. Write and create visuals that are appropriate for various city‑owned platforms, including social media and websites. Act as liaison to various city departments, support special events, and work collaboratively with the Communications team. Promote programs and agendas by responding to media inquiries, writing press releases, presentations, and public service announcements; update the website and submit daily program information. Education and Experience Broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field, usually obtained through a four‑year college degree or equivalent. Minimum 1 year of experience in communications or a related field. Preferred Skills Advanced experience with media monitoring practices, including capturing initial impressions of campaigns and conducting media analytics. Advanced experience with digital content management, creating and maintaining tailored content on websites, social media, and other digital platforms. Basic experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear and thorough documents and monthly reports. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Salary Range Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $54,190.94 – $58,050.69 Work Hours This is a 40‑hour per week position. Workdays and hours vary with organizational needs, and flexibility to work weekend and evening schedules is required. Retirement contributions: employees hired October 5, 2010 or later and on other positions under the City of Norfolk Retirement System will contribute 5% of salary; employees hired January 1, 2022 or later on the Virginia Retirement System will contribute 5% of salary.
