Tax Consultant (Indirect Tax) – Contract Role
Overview
A reputable organization in Houston is seeking an experienced
Tax Consultant
to support a wide range of indirect tax compliance activities. This is up to a
6‑month contract role with potential for extension , offering the opportunity to contribute to key tax operations and process improvements within a dynamic environment. The position is based
in the Galleria area
and follows a
hybrid schedule
of
3 days onsite / 2 days remote
each week. Compensation & Benefits $60.00-$70.00 per hour (W‑2) 401(k) with employer match Access to an independent healthcare agent who can help you select from a variety of medical insurance options (Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and others). Key Responsibilities Supervise state and federal indirect tax return filings prepared by an external service provider. Lead controls and process improvements related to indirect tax filing activities. Support indirect tax considerations during the customer onboarding process. Design, implement, and document indirect tax compliance processes and workflows. Manage and maintain counterparty licenses and exemption certificates. Oversee and maintain master data within the tax engine. Collaborate with sales, logistics, and other internal stakeholders on compliance-related matters. Assist with indirect tax audits and related documentation. Apply expertise in
motor fuel taxes
to ensure accurate and compliant reporting. Experience with Avalara tax compliance products a huge plus
