Overview
Serve as the Network Planning and Design (NPD) Expert for the company's telecom/IP network digital designs and records.
Act as the gatekeeper for all telecom/IP network planned and designed work completed within the Telecom Network Portal (TNP).
Review engineering work to ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of network and telecom design information using best practices.
Responsible for technical engagement, process oversight, design-quality enforcement, hands‑on network design support, and escalation to Engineering Supervisors when needed.
Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, technicians, drafters, project teams, and TNP Product Managers.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary gatekeeper for complete planning and design work, auditing Network Resource Process (NRP) submissions for accuracy and completeness.
Provide hands‑on technical support to engineers, architects, drafters, and project stakeholders.
Analyze clearance impacts, prepare circuits for updates, and communicate outcomes to responsible parties.
Maintain relationship mapping for telecom assets.
Develop and refine CI (Configuration Item) views, policies, and reporting.
Advise technical and business teams on configuration management best practices.
Assess discovery and reconciliation results for accurate data synchronization.
Partner with IT Product Specialists on system health checks, maintenance, and production support activities.
Consult with telecom engineers on designs and create connection paths from documentation.
Coordinate with network specialists to resolve design issues.
Support telecom technicians by assisting with connection/circuit updates.
Mentor and train IT operations engineers, design drafters, and technicians.
Participate in new initiatives and process improvements that enhance the platform or operational efficiency.
Requirements
Associate degree in electrical engineering technology, telecommunications technology, digital design drafting, computer science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
CompTIA Network certification.
4 years supporting and administering enterprise tools in a NOC or IT Network & Telecom Operations environment.
1 year of experience with discovery or modeling operations support systems.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of basic telecommunication/IP network technologies and best practices (Microwave, IP/Ethernet, SONET, DWDM, etc.).
Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
Basic familiarity with Linux and Windows application support.
Working knowledge of networks, telecom systems, and servers (Windows, Linux, Unix, AIX).
Ability to read and interpret technical telecommunications drawings.
Strong documentation skills with high attention to detail.
Solid understanding of the role of Discovery within ITIL processes.
Knowledge of networking/security protocols (SNMP, WMI, SSH, Telnet, JMX, SOAP, SQL/JDBC/ODBC, IPSec, etc.).
Experience working in utility or NERC‑regulated environments.
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience/certifications.
