Description
St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri is seeking a Choir Director to recruit, assemble and lead music for the principal Mass on Sundays and other liturgical celebrations. The Director serves not simply as a director of voices and instruments, but as a liturgical leader who understands the Mass as prayer, proclamation, and encounter, and who forms others to serve within that vision. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with strong musical and liturgical formation, capable of recruiting, training, and accompanying music ministers while fostering a culture of reverence, preparation, and service. The Choir Director will select music that is theologically sound, culturally authentic, and accessible to the assembly. This role collaborates closely with the Director, Liturgy and Music, Pastor, and parish leadership to ensure that music and worship are fully aligned with the mission of the parish and the life of its people. The Choir Director must be proficient in directing a variety of music styles, with emphasis on Gospel music. Music in the liturgy needs to be vibrant and executed at a high level with selections ranging from traditional hymns, spiritual to contemporary Gospel selections. A primary source of music is contained in the Lead Me Guide Me Hymnal and music learned and influenced by conferences such as the Archbishop Lyke Conference. This position is part time. Essential Duties
Prepares and leads music for parish liturgies and special events. Directs choirs and trains cantors through weekly rehearsals. Selects music consistent with the liturgical calendar. Coordinates with Director, Liturgy and Music, clergy and liturgy teams as needed. Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of Gospel Music. Superior music skills which translate to guiding musicians, choir, and cantors in providing music that inspires the worship experience. Flexible schedule including availability on weekends and evenings. Practicing Catholic or Christian with ethical standards, personal integrity, and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church. Note
