Senior Managing Accident Reconstructionist
The Senior Managing Accident Reconstructionist leads a team of expert staff in reconstructing vehicular accidents. The role requires extensive experience in forensic engineering and accident reconstruction investigations, traveling to accident sites, analyzing crash conditions, utilizing specialized software and 3D modeling, and providing written conclusions to determine contributing factors.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of experts in conducting accident investigations by traveling to and documenting accident scenes.
Download vehicle data recorders and perform analysis of accidents using crash simulation software.
Write reports and provide litigation support services to clients.
Handle large, complex projects, managing all aspects from start to finish.
Build and maintain rapport with current clients and generate new work.
Partner with business development representatives and attend conferences to promote the company.
Communicate with clients and team regarding scope, tasks, budget and ensure timely delivery of all project milestones.
Distribute workload evenly among experts and mentor team members.
Provide expert testimony in depositions or trials when requested.
Conduct vehicular investigations, including documenting crash scenes with 3D laser scanners, photography, drones, CDR/EDR downloads, and measuring devices.
Analyze vehicle crush patterns and conduct research on specifications, crash test data, and maintenance history.
Process 3D laser scan point cloud data using engineering workstation computers.
Develop scaled 3D drawings of crash scenes and vehicles with forensic animators.
Use collision reconstruction software (e.g., PC Crash) to simulate automobile collisions.
Apply engineering principles and momentum equations to calculate impact characteristics and trajectories.
Compare calculations with crash test reports to correlate damages.
Create detailed reports for clients detailing reconstruction processes and findings.
Review staff work to ensure accuracy and timeliness of deliverables.
Research current literature to advance scientific techniques in reconstruction.
What You Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
10+ years of experience in biomechanics, accident reconstruction, premises liability, or related work.
PE license, ACTAR certification, and/or SAE certification preferred.
Advanced expertise in collision dynamics (impact and departure speeds, forces, trajectories).
Strong background in automotive engineering and control systems.
Extensive experience working with insurance carriers, attorneys, and/or adjusters.
Experience performing computer simulations.
High proficiency in CAD.
Prior deposition and courtroom testimony experience a plus.
Willingness to travel to remote site locations as needed.
