Overview

The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years. The Athletic Director is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and administration of the school’s athletic program for students in grades 4–8. The Athletic Director ensures that all athletic activities reflect the mission of Catholic education and the school’s core values of Love, Learn, and Lead. Through athletics, students are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship, teamwork, perseverance, and respect for others. This position works closely with the Principal, Director of School Operations, coaches, students, parents, and the Athletic Board to provide a positive and well-organized athletic experience that supports the spiritual, academic, and personal development of student-athletes. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. Primary Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Coordination: Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the school’s athletic program for grades 4-8; coordinate seasonal sports programs including registration, scheduling, and team formation; ensure the athletic program supports the mission of Catholic education and reflects the school’s values of Love, Learn, and Lead; promote student participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development. Athletic Board Leadership: Guide and collaborate with the school’s Athletic Board in planning and supporting the athletic program; facilitate Athletic Board meetings and assist in setting agendas and priorities; work with the board to support coaches, coordinate volunteers, and plan athletic initiatives or events; oversee and help manage the athletic budget in coordination with the Athletic Board treasurer and school administration. League and Game Management: Serve as the primary liaison with the Catholic school athletic league and other participating schools, including attendance at all Athletic Director meetings; schedule games, tournaments, and practices in coordination with league officials and school administration; reserve the gym and other facilities through the parish reservation process for athletic events; ensure compliance with league rules, eligibility requirements, and safety standards. Coach Supervision and Support: Recruit, select, and supervise coaches for all athletic teams; provide coaches with orientation and guidance regarding school expectations, student safety, and sportsmanship prior to each season; communicate regularly with coaches regarding schedules, policies, and program expectations. Communication: Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates clearly to parents, students, coaches, and school staff; coordinate athletics announcements, newsletters, and website updates with the school marketing director; address questions or concerns from families regarding the athletic program. Student Safety and Compliance: Work with the school to ensure all coaches and volunteers meet Archdiocesan and school requirements (e.g., Safe Environment/VIRTUS training); monitor student eligibility and academic standing according to school policies; ensure all required forms and participation fees are distributed and collected prior to the start of each season; promote safe practices and ensure appropriate supervision during practices and games. Event and Logistics Management: Coordinate gym schedules and practice times with the parish facilities reservation process and school calendar; organize athletic equipment, distribute and collect uniforms, and manage inventory; attend home games and major athletic events to ensure operations run smoothly and school expectations for sportsmanship and supervision are upheld; collaborate with the Athletic Board to plan recognition events or end-of-season celebrations; coordinate recognition for graduating 8th grade athletes. Faith and Character Development: Encourage student-athletes and coaches to demonstrate respect, humility, and good sportsmanship; foster a positive environment where athletics complement students’ academic growth and faith development. Qualifications

Experience working with youth athletics or school sports programs. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with school leadership, coaches, parents, and students. Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education. Availability to attend after-school practices and occasional evening or weekend games. Compensation and Benefits

This position has an annualized salary range of $10,000.00-$12,000.00. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
