Reporting to the Customs Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the compliant and timely cross‑border movement of goods. This role prepares and validates import documentation, calculates applicable duties and taxes, and submits accurate electronic entries in accordance with regulatory requirements. You will also serve as a key liaison between importers, carriers, and government agencies—including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)—to facilitate customs clearance, resolve issues, and minimize shipment delays.
How you create impact
Preparation of all documents necessary to clear merchandise through US Customs & Border Protection, PGA’s (Participating Governmental Agencies i.e. FDA, EPA, DOT, FCC, Fish and Wildlife)
Ensure timely arrival and readiness to work at your assigned starting time
Process shipments within department guidelines according to NBSC Customer list/ Controlling branch instructions
Ensure timely and accurate input of all data/information necessary to process and facilitate shipments through U.S. Customs and PSG’s
Classify goods according to the customers SOP’s and/or instructions
Check Cargowise “buckets” daily to ensure all steps in entry/brokerage processes are being followed
Document review and assessment for accuracy, verification of critical data elements for entry processing
Scanning, archiving of entry document images and communicate entry # and entry status to carrier
Communicate documentation discrepancies to supervisor and/or controlling branch
Request or compile any necessary import documentation from client
Manage and assist to resolve all customer queries and ensure resolution of all problems
Interact closely with internal customers/departments to ensure customer service levels are achieved
Achieve minimum prescribed hours of training each year
What we would like you to bring
HS Diploma or Bachelors degree is desirable
2+ years of experience in Customs brokerage handling import shipments
Proficiency in customs brokerage software (e.g., Cargowise) and Microsoft Office Suite is an asset
Knowledge on Incoterms, CBP regulations, FDA Prior Notice, and other HTSUS Classification import processes.
Ability to multi-task, attention to detail, analyze complex regulatory requirements, and ensure 100% compliance
