Season: April to October; Leave Without Pay: November to March

Duties Directly responsible for the operation and maintenance of a golf course, which includes a minimum of nine holes, fairways, greens, practice areas and driving ranges. Provide technical advice and equipment. Coordinate schedules, conduct tournaments and special events, and may instruct member golfers. Operate a Pro Shop including retail, rentals, and food and beverage operation.

Plan, organize work and manage internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies. Prepare financial plans, budgets, inventories, cost controls, and related records and reports. Review the financial status of the assigned activity and recommend necessary changes.

Supervise Cashiers and Greenskeeper positions. Train employees, plan work schedules, appraise performances, counsel assigned personnel, and recommend personnel actions. Effectively support the Coast Guard’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy, and ensure compliance with fire, safety, security, sanitation, hazardous material handling, and other environmental issues. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.

Maintain and enforce security for funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to prevent or minimize fraud, waste and abuse.

Provide world class customer service with courtesy. Assist customers and communicate positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledge customers, smile and make eye contact. Ask questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Check for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Take action to solve problems quickly. Alert the MWR Business Manager for help when problems arise.

Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Use required safety equipment and observe safe work procedures. Promptly report any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Three years of experience that demonstrates professional knowledge of golf course operations, including retail, personnel procedures, and course maintenance.

Experience working with chemicals used on fungi and insects as well as weed and bush control.

Knowledge of safety, occupational health, and environmental regulations, including matters relating to chemicals, spray, and other agents.

Required to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Skill to supervise employees in the accomplishment of work.

Mixed position: must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Alaska environmental challenges.
