Southern Search is representing a leading commercial general contractor with a strong presence across the Southeast, seeking an experienced
Estimator
to support negotiated commercial projects throughout the Tampa market.
This is a high-impact role working directly with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners, playing a critical part in project planning, cost strategy, and overall project success.
Position Overview The Estimator will be responsible for managing projects from early conceptual budgeting through subcontractor buyout. This individual will play a key role in developing accurate, detailed cost evaluations while collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the estimating process from initial concept through subcontract execution
Develop detailed conceptual and schematic-level cost estimates
Analyze drawings and specifications to produce complete and accurate project budgets
Identify gaps in information and proactively drive clarity with project stakeholders
Prepare value engineering studies and cost variance analyses as design evolves
Build comprehensive, client-facing estimate packages and presentations
Manage the bidding process, including bid solicitation, leveling, and analysis
Develop bid packages, scopes of work, and trade-specific clarifications
Evaluate subcontractor proposals and lead negotiations through award and contract execution
Collaborate with project teams to determine staffing, schedule, and project approach
Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and clients
Participate in and support RFP responses and project presentations
Contribute to business development efforts with new and existing clients
Qualifications
3+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator
Experience with negotiated work across commercial project types
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and unit costs
Proven ability to produce accurate conceptual and detailed estimates
Experience managing the full bidding and buyout process
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in estimating and construction software
Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
