Job Summary Mazzetti’s Lighting Design Studio is seeking an experienced Senior Lighting Designer with 6–12 years of professional experience to support and lead the development of high‑quality lighting solutions across a wide range of project types. In this role, you will take a hands‑on approach to design execution—developing lighting concepts, performing calculations and energy analysis, producing drawings and specifications, and contributing to client presentations.
You’ll collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and internal teams, play an active role in sustainable and high‑performance design efforts, and support projects through select construction phases. This position is well suited for a designer who brings strong technical skills, people skills, sound design judgment, and the ability to manage work independently while contributing to a collaborative studio culture.

With expertise in lighting design, illumination engineering, daylighting, theatrical lighting, smart systems, and lighting controls, we deliver impactful results. While we work across various sectors, including master planning, hospitality, civic, commercial, and high‑end residential design, we have a strong focus on healthcare, known for its energy‑intensive and highly regulated buildings. Core Responsibilities
Contributing to lighting design development from concept through construction, with opportunities to grow into a project leadership role
Performing lighting calculations, energy analysis, and photometric modeling
Producing and coordinating lighting drawings, details, and specifications
Developing renderings, diagrams, and presentation materials for internal and client‑facing use
Coordinating work within the Mazzetti team and with other disciplines
Coordinating lighting scope with internal Mazzetti teams, as well as architectural, electrical, and engineering disciplines
Supporting sustainability goals, including energy efficiency, daylighting, and LEED‑related efforts
Participating in construction‑phase services, including submittal reviews and design intent support and site visits
Managing assigned tasks, schedules, and deliverables
Contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects including healthcare, hospitality, civic, commercial, and residential work
Integrating sustainable lighting strategies into all phases of design
Work Location We are hiring in Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; and San Francisco, CA so this role can support local and regional project/site visits, conferences, and other professional engagement opportunities. This is otherwise a fully remote role, with no required in‑office time or regular office attendance.
Travel Requirements This position requires travel of 5% or less.
Requirements
Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Lighting Design, or related field
6–12 years of experience in the lighting design industry
Strong proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and/or other BIM platforms
Extensive experience with photometric modeling tools such as AGI32, LightStanza, DIALux, or similar
Demonstrated ability to translate design intent into technically sound, buildable solutions
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working independently on multiple projects
Commitment to sustainable, energy‑efficient, and human‑centered lighting design
Preferred
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite for presentation and visual storytelling
Familiarity with daylighting analysis tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper, AGI, or LightStanza
Active or eligible membership in professional organizations such as IES or IALD
Design experience in the healthcare sector
Interest in Business Development and client engagement
Compensation The typical salary range for a Lighting Designer in Atlanta, GA, San Francisco, CA, or Los Angeles, CA is $80,000–$140,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.
