About the Role We are seeking a Vice President or SVP to serve as a senior communications strategist, advisor, and business builder. The ideal candidate will have extensive media relations experience, including both proactive and reactive engagement with national business, financial, and industry reporters. In this role, you will lead client accounts across industries, overseeing strategic communications, narrative development, and media engagement. You will also help guide teams, deliver exceptional client service, and work with firm leadership to grow the business. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is based in New York City. The role requires in-person work at our office three to four days per week.
Key Responsibilities ● Client Services (90% of time)
Support leadership of client engagements, managing day-to-day deliverables, including strategic plans, messaging and narrative development, press releases, talking points, presentations, and Q&A materials
Provide counsel on all matters of communications, including media relations, narrative development, and crisis
Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, editors, and producers across key outlets
Coach and mentor junior colleagues to help build a strong, high-performing team
Stay attuned to the media landscape, business trends, and issues affecting client industries
● Business Development (10% of time)
Collaborate with firm leadership to identify and source new business opportunities
Develop pitch materials and proposals tailored to potential client needs
Participate in pitch meetings, as needed
Preferred Qualifications
6+ years of experience in strategic or financial communications, either in-house or at an agency
Proven success developing and executing media relations strategies, including managing high-profile press opportunities and sensitive issues
Strong relationships with journalists across business, finance, and national media outlets
Demonstrated ability to lead complex, fast-moving projects with precision and sound judgment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex issues into compelling narratives
Experience in business development, including pitching and onboarding new clients
A collaborative, proactive approach with a commitment to mentoring and continuous improvement
Comfort operating in environments of ambiguity and rapid change
