Build Your Future with Us The Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter in Cleveland, OH. The candidate must reside within this territory or be in proximity to our Fairfield, OH headquarters.

Salary The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $140,000 annually. Pay is based on education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be Ready To

Work in partnership with producers and an assigned underwriting assistant to solicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business.

Determine individual risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions.

Develop, analyze and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks.

Achieve production and loss ratio goals within the assigned regional territory.

Work independently with a high level of authority and judgment.

Determine the need for and secure appropriate reinsurance on individual accounts.

Mentor and train underwriters and underwriting assistants.

Develop successful business relationships with producers and reinsurers.

Research new products and coverage forms.

Travel within the assigned territory, which may include some overnight stays.

Be Equipped With

Property and casualty underwriting experience.

Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Organizational and time‑management skills.

Strong decision‑making, analytical and negotiating abilities.

Desire to build relationships and listen effectively.

Ability to develop positive working relationships with team members and agents by working to find possible solutions that benefit all parties.

Skilled use of verbal communication to explain, negotiate and present information; understanding when to use verbal or written communication.

A valid driver’s license. Final candidates will also undergo a Motor Vehicle Record background check, as the position may include a company vehicle.

Bring Education or Experience From

Bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience.

5+ years of experience working with commercial lines property and casualty products (required).

Prior excess and surplus casualty underwriting experience with a carrier, broker or MGA (preferred).

ASLI or CPCU designations preferred.

Candidates with a carrier background will be given preference; complete training is provided in Cincinnati, OH prior to deployment to the regional territory.
