Mechanical Designer - HVAC

Mechanical Designer – HVAC IMEG is growing and is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer – HVAC to work in either our Idaho Falls or Sacramento office.

The role involves collaborating with a team of experienced engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients in the vertical building industry.

Principal Responsibilities

Complete assigned engineering tasks of low to moderate complexity.

Assist in the design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.

Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.

Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress.

Analyze low to moderate complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions in collaboration with senior engineers.

Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG, industry, and client standards.

Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering.

Prioritize safety in all engineering work, identifying and mitigating potential safety risks.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including other engineers, architects, and project managers—to deliver integrated solutions.

Required Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts used for technical plans and specifications.

Strong technical and analytical skills, including thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as they relate to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software, including HVAC load calculation software and BIM software.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and eagerness to learn and adapt.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.

Education & Experience

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.

Minimum of 1 year experience in the building design consulting industry.

Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

Regularly sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.

Occasionally drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.

Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.

Salary State of California Salary Range: $77,000 – $95,000. Individual pay is based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
