What You'll Do
Portfolio Analyst – Asset Allocation (Des Moines, Iowa) Join our Principal Asset Allocation ("PAA") Portfolio Management team supporting Target Date Funds. In this role, you’ll deliver investment forecasts, risk analytics, portfolio modeling, and research insights that help optimize portfolio positioning and performance. Portfolio Construction:
Support asset class research, risk modeling, scenario analysis, and efficient frontier work. Portfolio Analysis:
Create reports that monitor key investment criteria, risk characteristics, and attribution trends. Provide insights and recommendations to the portfolio management team based on independent analysis Portfolio Trading:
Support and execute trading functions that focus on tactical asset allocation and rebalancing efforts Portfolio Reporting:
Communicate portfolio positioning, performance, sub‑advisor updates, and active risk drivers. Assist in preparing and publishing performance commentary for internal and external stakeholders Research & Intellectual Capital:
Contribute to portfolio R&D efforts and other thought‑leadership materials. Continue developing advanced analytical skills to support investment research and portfolio insights Who You Are
Who you Are Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in finance, economics, accounting, math, statistics, or similar technical field General knowledge of investment vehicles, economic and investment theories, the investment environment, and an understanding of Principal Asset Management’s network of specialized investment groups and affiliate product offerings Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, coupled with strong quantitative and analytical skills Skills That Will Help You Stand Out 2+ years of relevant investment-related experience, including exposure to equities, fixed income, and/or multi‑asset class investments Python or similar coding skills preferred CFA designation, or progression towards Experience with Morningstar, Bloomberg, FactSet, Barra and performance attribution/risk decomposition tools Charles River experience Ability to efficiently and effectively research, compile and analyze information Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently in a non-structured environment, and drive results Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$83,300 - $104,500 / year Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible
