Role Overview The Director, External Innovation role will report to the Executive Director of External Innovation, Aesthetics. This role will play an integral part in sourcing and evaluating external innovation opportunities through the leadership and management of commercial assessments related to the therapeutic area strategy. The position will support due diligence on deals and drive the Aesthetics business development process internally and externally, targeting licensing/acquisition of key therapeutic assets, R&D collaborations, and related enabling collaborations.

Specific activities include working with the Search & Evaluation and BD&A Transactions teams to evaluate opportunities and with the project team to:

Represent the commercial strategy across all diligence including to senior leaders during governance.

Develop the business development strategy.

Drive commercial diligence assessment including competitive assessment.

Product forecasting.

Lead commercial P&L generation.

Perform market insights generation and gather secondary analytics.

The position involves working with a variety of key stakeholders, including Search and Evaluation, Licensing & Acquisition, Clinical, Discovery, Regulatory, Operations, US & Global Commercial, Forecasting, Finance, and Market Research partners. Due to the cross-portfolio nature of the role, the candidate will also contribute to BD strategy in the Strategic Long-Range Planning process and input into Therapeutic Area Strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Work with internal research, development, search and evaluation, commercial and financial analytics experts on the evaluation, due diligence, and initial product development plan for proposed transactions, including supporting the overall product evaluation process, clinical / scientific assessments, evaluation of the commercial opportunity, analysis of the competitive landscape, and financial modeling.

Serve as commercial lead for internal due diligence process with Clinical, Commercial, Regulatory, Finance, Legal & IP, and Manufacturing teams to conduct a detailed evaluation process.

Lead commercial due diligence of external assets and ensure tight timelines are on track.

Partner with the Pipeline Commercialization Strategy TA team and cross-functional partners to align BD strategies with Therapeutic Area strategies and create target product profiles for external asset evaluations.

Work with the market research team to perform any market assessments needed.

Provide commercial input on clinical development plans for external asset evaluations.

Build the commercial forecast for all external assets.

Develop commercial P&Ls, including operating expense assumptions.

Frame strategic and financial benefits of deals under evaluation.

Generate and present clear and concise commercial diligence decks to Senior Leadership.

Attend scientific and medical conferences to stay abreast of new developments in key therapeutic areas.

The successful candidate will have a strong commercial background and be able to understand business principles and market dynamics across various disease areas and indications within Aesthetics.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in management consulting, investment banking/investing/finance, biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.

Robust understanding of the full drug & medical device development process, lifecycle management and commercialization.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and proactively, possess high degree of planning, coordination, project management skills, and problem-solving ability.

Clarity in communication – expert in producing crisp and compelling presentations for governance discussions that are executive ready.

Organized, detail-oriented personality with the ability to multi-task.

Team player with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys working in a collaborative firm culture.

Impeccable integrity, work ethic and commitment.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (MBA, Ph.D. or M.D.).

Experience in Medtech, BD within a biotech, consultancy, or pharmaceutical company.

Understanding of the aesthetics market and clinical knowledge.

Experience building/owning a deal model and/or generating revenue forecasts and P&L models.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
