Field Engineering Designer I (Hybrid Schedule)

Position Overview Responsible for maintaining and building customer relationships, designing electrical service layouts, performing technical calculations, and coordinating installation and relocation of electrical services.

Responsibilities

Maintain and build customer relationships by ensuring customer requests are met in a timely fashion.

Design layouts for service additions and changes to the company electric system using approved standards and policies.

Performs technical calculations and prepares work orders as assigned.

Communicates internally and externally the company requirements for electric service installation.

Design, negotiate, and coordinate the installation of residential, commercial, and industrial services including the preparation of cost estimates, work orders, and written service agreements.

Prepares easement documents and private property permits as required for services and extensions on private property.

Design, negotiate and coordinate the relocation of overhead and underground facilities, including the preparation of work orders and cost estimates.

Recommend designs and coordinate installation of residential streetlights; prepare work orders for the installation of security lighting and unmetered services for customers; prepare residential or commercial contracts as assigned.

Perform analysis/assistance in emergency restoration, facilitating restoration efforts and working beyond regular business hours as required.

Qualifications An Associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field, or a High School diploma or equivalent and one year of formal technical training, is required.

Four to Six (4‑6) years of related electrical distribution experience are required.

Technical Skills: sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems and construction standards and techniques.

Internal Contacts: Various departments, Customer Service, Transportation, Stores, IT, Telecommunications personnel, Real Estate, Analysts, Planners, Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, Circuit Owners, Zone Managers, and clerical/secretarial support.

External Contacts: Customers, contractors, municipal and state contacts, business and utility representatives.

Challenges: Meet internal & external customer expectations and improve overall service performance and efficiency; be cost conscious; reduce rework.

Freedom to Act: Determines detail design, applicable fees, easement requirements, permitting requirements, and locations for service requests; uses independent judgment and discretion in applying appropriate standards and policies.
