Title
Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Designer
Location Spruance Site, Richmond, VA. This position is full‑time and performed onsite.
Overview KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) provides holistic, value-added solutions across the entire asset lifecycle, including licensed process technologies, advisory services, deep technical expertise, and high‑end design capabilities for industrial facilities.
Functional Job Responsibilities
Responsible for design of electrical, instrument and control systems and components for heavy industrial and manufacturing facilities.
Prepare detailed drawings for installation of electrical systems and equipment, including motors, controls, panels, wiring, breakers, substations, distribution circuits, cable trays and conduits.
Assist in conducting electrical reviews of all project packages prior to Issue for Construction (IFC) to ensure quality procedures are followed.
Review project design estimates and work scopes for new projects.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Minimum 10 years of applicable E&I design experience within the chemical, industrial, and manufacturing industry.
Experience working with and mentoring designers or team members.
Experience communicating job packages/projects with construction and plant personnel.
Experience specifying vendor instrument equipment and reading vendor manuals.
Working knowledge of NEC codes.
Experience in voltage‑drop calculations, wiring sizing, and conduit fill calculations.
Experience creating and modifying P&I diagrams, loop sheets, single‑line diagrams, logic and electrical schematics.
Experience with 480‑volt power distribution systems, lighting, schematic wiring diagrams, cable/raceway sizing, lightning protection and grounding.
Experience with medium‑voltage power distribution systems is a plus.
Experience developing scopes of work, task analysis, material lists, and project schedules.
Proficiency with 2D MicroStation or AutoCAD.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Physical Requirements
Work occurs at an industrial plant with exposure to ambient temperature extremes.
Use and wear personal protective equipment such as fire‑retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hats, and steel‑toed boots.
Standard office activities: sitting/standing, attending meetings, repetitive keyboard and mouse use, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs., etc.
Moderate physical exertion required, including walking to operating areas and climbing stairs.
