Overview
The Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager is responsible for the active management and execution of fixed income strategies across multiple discretionary strategies. This role covers all aspects of these strategies including market research, investment due diligence, portfolio design, implementation, trading, and marketing. The position holds discretionary authority to buy and sell securities within established investment guidelines and risk parameters and serves as the senior decision-maker for portfolio positioning, trade execution, and risk management. As a member of the Investment Strategy Committee, this individual partners closely with other Portfolio Managers, the Investment Team, Trading, Compliance, Risk, and senior leadership to ensure best execution, consistency of outcomes, and alignment with firm-wide objectives. Responsibilities
Hold firm-delegated discretionary authority to buy and sell fixed income securities across many accounts and multiple strategies, consistent with approved investment guidelines, risk limits, and client mandates. Be responsible for the overall outcome of fixed income advisory strategies from performance to compliance – and for scaling and evolving these portfolios to be effective in all market conditions and relevant for the needs of advisors and clients. Utilize strong investment and market experience to establish expectations on rates, yield curve, credit, sector/structure, tax positioning, etc. to create and support model parameters, target allocations, and portfolio guidelines for Edwards Fixed Income Portfolios. Execute trades across a broad range of fixed income instruments, including investment-grade corporates, municipals, agencies, Treasuries, and other approved securities. Manage portfolio positioning across interest rate, yield curve, credit, sector, structure, and liquidity dimensions. Evaluate relative value opportunities and market conditions to optimize execution quality, portfolio outcomes, and transaction costs. Monitor portfolio risk metrics and escalate material risks or exceptions as appropriate. Perform credit analysis and due diligence on corporate and municipal issuers. Serve as Primary holder with responsibility for risk management, including escalation, exception management, and governance for these portfolios. Ensure adherence to best execution standards, trade documentation requirements, and regulatory obligations. Lead, coach, train, and manage a team of other Portfolio Managers to grow and support this business. Promote and drive asset growth through marketing and ongoing communications. Serve as subject matter expert to support advisors and their clients. Utilize portfolio management systems, research platforms, and other technology to effectively implement these strategies. Occasional travel up to 10% of the time may be required. Qualifications
Progressive experience in fixed income trading and/or portfolio management, with demonstrated discretionary trading authority. Deep expertise in fixed income markets, instruments, market structure, and execution practices. Proven experience managing multiple portfolios simultaneously within defined guidelines. Prior experience leading, supervising, or mentoring trading professionals. Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, and risk management considerations applicable to fixed income trading. Excellent judgment, decision-making ability, and comfort operating with autonomy and accountability. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex market and portfolio decisions. Motivated self-starter interested in helping to build and grow a new business line. Education And/or Work Experience
Minimum Work Experience Required: 10+ Years of Fixed Income Portfolio Management and Trading experience including experience leading a team (performance management and development). Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or related field. Licenses/Registration
Minimum Required: SIE, Series 7, 66; 24 and 52. CFA designation or progress toward the charter is a plus. This position requires the ability to work in a stationary position for several hours at a time and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally. Some filing is required. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smoke-free, office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
