Job Summary The Instructional Designer (ID) will guide and support the development of innovative online programs and courses through direct consultation with individual faculty and faculty groups regarding online course design, delivery, and quality assurance. The ID works within AU Online and collaborates with IT, faculty, staff, and administrators to design, develop, and deliver high quality asynchronous online courses and programs, integrating active learning activities, technology tools, and assessments that enhance student learning and meet instructional quality and student experience standards.

Responsibilities

Develop instructional experiences: collaborate with faculty to design and develop effective asynchronous online learning.

Employ industry‑standard practices, learning theory, and design principles to create high‑quality learning experiences.

Assist faculty in selecting educational technologies that support course learning outcomes.

Support development of multimedia for courses.

Project manage multiple online asynchronous courses during each development cycle.

Create valid assessments that produce artifacts for evaluating learning.

Source and create dynamic content to maintain learner engagement.

Review and update existing courses collaboratively with faculty developers to ensure contemporary relevance.

Recommend changes to learning experiences based on performance data and feedback.

Work closely with IDEA team resources, websites, and handouts for training delivery channels.

Support quality assurance processes: apply rubrics, consult with instructors on accessibility, copyright, and compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.

Support faculty training and development focused on engaging online instruction.

Maintain ongoing professional growth by updating skills and knowledge related to instructional design, new models of online instruction, and emerging technologies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.

OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of related experience working with a learning management system.

Required Experience

Experience designing learning experiences, facilitating training, and delivering presentations to adult learners.

Experience in a higher education setting.

Experience with online course development and integration of educational technology in the learning environment; experience with audio and video production.

Preferred Qualifications

Several years of experience as a contributing team member.

Experience designing asynchronous and synchronous online instruction in higher education.

Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education.

Experience implementing a variety of rubrics and standards for quality assurance purposes.

Demonstrated success working with faculty or instructional staff to improve teaching and learning.

Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for faculty.

Experience with learning analytics.

Presentation and/or publication in peer‑reviewed contexts.

Shift, Salary, and Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Pay Band: B10.

Salary: Minimum $52,500 annually – Midpoint $65,600 annually; salary commensurate with qualifications within range.

Recruitment Period: 2/11/2026 – Until Filled.

Benefits may include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting.

Optional credit check for Positions of Trust and/or approved departmental Purchase Card usage when applicable.

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle.
