Communications Manager – Policy Communications & External Affairs

Full-time contract (April – October 2026)
Overview Intepros' valued client is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to support Policy Communications and External Affairs during a parental leave coverage period. This individual will lead strategic communications efforts, including media relations and campaign execution, to support policy and business objectives across the U.S.
This role will focus heavily on
state and local policy communications , driving awareness among media, policymakers, and key stakeholders while highlighting the organization's impact on customers and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute
strategic communications campaigns
aligned with state and local policy initiatives
Develop and manage
external communications programs and events
supporting policy goals
Build and maintain
strong relationships with local and regional media outlets
Manage
inbound media inquiries
and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson when needed
Partner with public policy teams to
educate policymakers and media
on key legislative and regulatory issues
Provide
communications counsel
on both short‑ and long‑term policy challenges and opportunities
Plan and execute events, including:
Press briefings and press conferences
Media and policymaker tours
Industry and stakeholder events
Op‑eds and thought leadership pieces
Blog posts and digital content
Print and campaign collateral
Lead
issues management and crisis communications efforts
Collaborate cross-functionally to drive alignment and deliver results under tight deadlines
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in
public relations, communications, or media relations
Experience supporting or working with
public policy issues
(corporate or government environment)
Strong writing, messaging, and media engagement skills
Proven ability to manage
multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience serving as an
on-the-record spokesperson
on complex issues
Background working with
policy or political reporters
Strong understanding of the
legislative and regulatory process
Ability to
quickly learn and communicate complex policy topics
Experience collaborating across
multiple teams and stakeholders
Prior experience supporting
state and local communications campaigns
