Carter Machinery Company – Commercial Origination Manager
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C., is hiring a Commercial Origination Manager for its Carter Global Power Division in Richmond, Virginia. The role focuses on developing and executing natural gas supply and infrastructure strategies to enable Energy-as-a-Service solutions. The manager works within the Commercial team and is responsible for originating, evaluating, and advancing fuel‑related opportunities that support distributed power projects across data centers, utilities, oil and gas, and industrial markets. Collaboration with Business Development, Finance, Engineering, and external stakeholders ensures delivery of fuel solutions for both grid‑connected and behind‑the‑meter power projects.
Responsibilities • Originating, evaluating, and advancing fuel‑related opportunities that support distributed power projects. • Developing and executing natural gas supply and infrastructure strategies for Energy-as-a-Service solutions. • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams (Business Development, Finance, Engineering) and external stakeholders. • Delivering fuel solutions across grid‑connected and behind‑the‑meter projects.
Qualifications
Strong understanding of natural gas supply, transportation, pipeline development, and commercial contracting.
Ability to evaluate complex commercial, technical, and regulatory considerations and translate them into actionable strategies.
Familiarity with project‑financed or long‑term contractual models (PPA, EaaS, lease‑and‑service).
Knowledge of pipeline permitting, right‑of‑way, and ownership structures.
Understanding of CNG compression, transportation, storage, and delivery economics.
Solid decision‑making, analytical, and organizational skills.
Collaborative, cross‑functional communicator and results‑oriented with a strong sense of ownership.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; good attention to detail.
Must have an excellent driving record and be willing to travel, including overnight or out‑of‑town via car or airplane.
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Must engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with senior management and other personnel.
Software proficiency, commitment to promoting a positive client experience, and upholding the Core Values of Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, and Teamwork.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, Finance, or a related field and a minimum of ten years’ experience in natural gas markets, commercial origination, fuel procurement, midstream development, or energy infrastructure.
Experience supporting or leading negotiations of fuel‑related agreements and customer‑facing, mission‑critical applications (data centers, industrial, utilities, oil and gas).
Physical Requirements The Commercial Origination Manager must regularly sit, talk, or hear; stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and adjustment of focus.
