Position Overview We are seeking a highly collaborative Designer to support gas regulation and regulator station projects, primarily focused on smaller-scale assets. This role is responsible for end-to-end design work—from initial site reviews (ISR) through as-built documentation—while working closely with engineers, project managers, and clients. The ideal candidate is a strong drafter with the ability to interpret 2D drawings and translate them into 3D models, with a focus on piping systems and gas flow processes.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage design packages from ISR through final as-builts
Create and revise engineering drawings using CADWorx
Translate 3D models into fabrication drawings and as-built documentation
Collaborate closely with engineers, PMs, and clients to ensure design accuracy and completeness
Validate and align Bill of Materials (BOM) with project requirements
Apply knowledge of pipe specifications to ensure correct system design
Maintain document control and revision tracking throughout project lifecycle
Conduct site visits (1–2 times per month) to gather field data and validate designs
Required Qualifications
5+ years of drafting/design experience
Strong proficiency in CADWorx (preferred) or similar tools
Ability to interpret 2D drawings and convert to 3D models
Experience with piping design and gas systems (preferred)
Familiarity with:
Engineering drawings and drafting standards
Document control and revision processes
BOM validation and coordination
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in utilities or gas industry (highly preferred)
Exposure to tools such as:
Revit
MicroStation
Geo-spatial mapping tools
SAP
Previous experience with Xcel Energy or similar organizations
Work Environment & Additional Details
Based out of LDC (Local Distribution Company) environment
Minimal layers between stakeholders—direct interaction with clients and engineers
1–2 month onboarding period
Emphasis on team collaboration and hands-on design work

Comfortable working on smaller, fast-moving projects
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple design stages simultaneously
