Job Description Disney Entertainment’s eight-owned ABC stations are multiplatform local news and information leaders. WABC-TV has led local news and entertainment programming in the New York City area for more than 60 years. Producing more than 45 hours of live, local news and weather each week, Channel 7 “Eyewitness News” is the most-watched local news in New York and the United States. The work schedule includes two weekend shifts and three weekday shifts. Weekday assignments will be finalized based on operational needs.

This is a full-time staff position. The position is covered under the WGA-ABC National Agreement.

Responsibilities

WABC is seeking an Assignment Editor who is comfortable working under the pressures of a breaking news situation!

This individual is a critical member of our newsroom whose responsibilities involve assigning crews, reporters, gathering information about developing news stories, and actively identifying and generating original high-impact stories that reflect the diversity of our audience.

Handle all inquiries and requests from a variety of individuals and organizations.

Work closely with news managers, producers, and other assignment editors to coordinate coverage of breaking and daily stories.

Identifying social media content for news stories and getting permission for use

Interact with viewers daily via phone and social media.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of TV newsroom experience.

Strong teammate who interacts in a positive, ethical, and compassionate way with other employees and the public.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A high degree of ethics, empathy, professionalism, and the ability to function well under pressure in fast-paced situations

Flexible to work various shifts as needed, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of police scanners and online newsgathering

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent experience

College Degree

The base salary for this WGA position in New York is $139,913.00. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
