Job Summary Under the direction of the Director of Student Affairs Communications & Marketing, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for increasing awareness, understanding, and utilization of campus support resources among students at CSULB. The position supports and collaborates with all Student Affairs programs, with a primary focus on Beach Wellness (Counseling & Psychological Services and Rising Tides, Student Health Services, Safer, and the CAST mobile crisis team) by developing and executing strategic, data‑informed, and student‑centered marketing initiatives. The specialist uses current and innovative digital and print marketing strategies to create compelling content that resonates with a college student audience, ensures consistent messaging across platforms, and leverages data and best practices to connect students with essential resources that support their academic success and overall well‑being. The role involves writing, producing, and creating content for high visibility, staying updated on media trends in higher education, and bringing new ideas to CSULB. The specialist also upholds accessibility standards, supervises student assistants, and facilitates cross‑departmental partnerships to enhance communication efforts and promote equity and inclusivity across campus.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive digital and print marketing strategies that promote Student Affairs programs, services, and resources, with a primary focus on Beach Wellness.

Collaborate and coordinate with Student Affairs departments and campus partners to identify marketing needs and opportunities.

Utilize data sources such as campus surveys, website analytics, social media metrics, and engagement data to inform marketing decisions.

Department Student Affairs Communications & Marketing

Time Base 1.0 time‑base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Classification Marketing Communications Professional II

Compensation Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,178 (Step #1) – $7,543 (Step #20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Strong understanding of social media platforms, social media marketing strategy, and best practices for engagement. Excellent oral and written communication skills for addressing a wide variety of audiences and constituent groups, including one‑on‑one meetings with department leadership and group meetings. Ability to listen, take feedback, and implement it accurately. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Strong analytical mindset to interpret data and insights to drive decision‑making. Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work with diverse stakeholders. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and maintain a positive, respectful attitude. Knowledge of current trends in social media marketing and ability to stay updated with fast‑paced changes in communications industry standards. Excellent organizational, time‑management, and project‑management skills. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each student and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education And Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience required. Occasional evenings and or weekends.

Preferred

Professional or technical experience.

Experience in marketing, promotion, communications, digital media, or related field.

Progressively responsible professional experience in social media engagement and digital marketing.

Three‑years experience and fluency in social media platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.

Experience in media production equipment and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).

Experience supervising, leading, and mentoring students/student groups from diverse backgrounds.

Possess or be eligible to possess a valid CA Driver's License.

Physical Summary Light work – Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10–20 pounds) and/or 10%–20% of the job involves standing or walking.
