General Function
Selected candidates will be expected to become a Retail Personal Banker I after a 4‑8 week onboarding and education program. The program includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service, and culminates in a certification that demonstrates the skills required for a Retail Personal Banker role. The Personal Banker I is a Financial Center position focused on using the consultative sales process to proactively identify and meet the financial needs of customers or prospects. Responsibilities include acquiring new households and deepening existing relationships through activities such as lobby leadership, aisle time, tele‑consulting, and teller transactions.
All activities are performed within the bank’s risk framework, consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks while ensuring positive customer experiences and compliance with policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Use the consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build customer profiles and identify current and future financial needs.
Maintain in‑depth knowledge of Retail consumer and small business products/services and recommend solutions using our value proposition.
Utilize CAMP and approved marketing tools to proactively reach out to customers and set appointments for periodic financial reviews.
Focus primarily on cross‑selling to the existing customer base and engaging in outside sales activities such as Membership Advantage presentations, business sales calls, and community financial literacy events as directed.
Establish close working relationships with assigned Business Partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial, and Investment) and refer customers appropriately for holistic financial solutions.
Consistently meet or exceed customer experience and individual/team production goals and enhance year‑over‑year revenue growth as measured by the Financial Center P&L.
Provide guidance to CSRs concerning the sales and referral process.
Promote customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism.
Act confidently by answering customer questions and owning resolution of customer issues.
Maintain trustworthiness by keeping all business confidential.
Follow the Bancorp Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other policies, maintaining ethical behavior at all times.
Adhere to established policies while opening/servicing the full range of Retail products.
Participate in the consumer loan and bankcard process, owning sourced loans from application through closing.
Participate in opening/closing of the Financial Center or Bank Mart as directed by the Financial Center Manager.
Keep up to date on Retail procedures to mitigate fraud and risk.
Supervisory Responsibilities None.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
College degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience in the financial industry preferred.
Demonstrated comfort with sales activities to acquire new customers and cross‑sell to existing customers.
Understanding of advanced math functions for credit and financial analysis.
Professional representation of Fifth Third Bank in appearance and communication.
Working knowledge of Retail policies and procedures to make sound judgments.
Required S.A.F.E. Act registration through NMLS at time of employment.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment.
Extensive screen time.
Must travel within the affiliate for training and occasionally outside the affiliate for classroom training.
