About this Job

The Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft (IFAT) Unit is responsible for investigating referrals of suspected fraudulent insurance acts; assisting federal and local law enforcement, cooperating with prosecutors and the attorney general’s office in prosecuting fraudulent acts; and promoting awareness of insurance fraud throughout the state. The unit also investigates individuals and illicit organizations involved in theft of motor vehicles. The Criminal Investigator conducts criminal, administrative, and regulatory investigations, and may conduct surveillance of known and suspected criminal targets. Minimum Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work, or • Twelve (12) hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field. Special Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. Disqualification for any individual convicted of a felony or with pending felony charges. Also disqualified for convictions within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated. Job Duties

Investigates violations of state criminal laws and conducts administrative and regulatory investigations. Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests. Locates and interviews witnesses and testifies in court. Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and performs physical and technical surveillance. Prepares reports on investigations. Makes physical arrests and transports fugitives. Performs background investigations. Position Details

Criminal Investigator 1 (PS-112) – $1,764.80 bi‑weekly. Criminal Investigator 2 (PS-113) – $1,888.00 bi‑weekly. Criminal Investigator 3 (PS-115) – $2,161.60 bi‑weekly. Additional Requirements

Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for the 2100‑Protective Services Exam (PSE) unless exempted by policy. Applicants are required to undergo drug screening and additional background checks. The agency participates in the E‑Verify system for citizenship verification.
