About the Role The Sanitation Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all sanitation operations to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment within the community or organization. This role involves strategic planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of sanitation services, including waste collection, disposal, recycling, and public cleanliness initiatives. The director will lead a team of sanitation workers and supervisors, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental health and safety. They will collaborate with other departments, government agencies, and community stakeholders to promote sustainable sanitation practices and public awareness. Ultimately, the Sanitation Director plays a critical role in protecting public health and enhancing the quality of life through effective sanitation management and innovation.

What you will do

Develop, implement, and monitor sanitation policies, procedures, and programs to maintain high standards of cleanliness and environmental safety – in a Start Up culture

Manage daily operations of waste collection, recycling programs, street cleaning, and disposal services, ensuring efficiency and reliability.

Lead, train, and evaluate sanitation staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations and prepare reports for regulatory agencies and senior management.

Coordinate with municipal departments, contractors, and community organizations to optimize sanitation services and address public concerns.

Prepare and manage the sanitation department budget, including resource allocation, procurement, and cost control.

Lead initiatives to adopt sustainable and innovative sanitation technologies and practices to reduce environmental impact.

What you bring to the table

Must have demonstrated success with Start Up environment

Critical – must have industry experience in dairy/ice cream manufacturing

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Sanitation Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in sanitation operations or environmental services, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

Strong knowledge of sanitation regulations, waste management practices, and environmental health standards.

Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and complex operational programs effectively.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Experience working with municipal or government sanitation departments.

Proficiency in data analysis and sanitation management software.

Certification in Waste Management or Environmental Health (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional).

Familiarity with sustainable sanitation technologies and green waste management practices.
