Summary The Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for the overall organization and administration of a comprehensive campus recreation department, including 10 full‑time staff, 3 GAs, and 130 student employees. Campus recreation facilities include the Morris Recreation Center (MRC), Cain Sports Field Complex, Outdoor Adventure Complex, and an Esports Room.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides leadership and oversight for all areas within the department including aquatics, business administration, data analysis, facility operations, fitness, marketing, nutrition, outdoor adventure, and sports programs.
Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises 10 professional staff members.
Plans and manages facilities for short‑term and long‑term needs including maintenance and custodial services for MRC, Cain Sports Field Complex, Outdoor Adventure Complex, and the Esports Room.
Develops strategic plans, long‑ and short‑term goals, and new initiatives to meet student needs.
Develops, implements, and manages the departmental budget, with revenue over $2.5 million.
Creates comprehensive risk‑management program for the department.
Directly supervises data analysis, including a GA in dashboards and reports.
Leads continuous improvement of departmental values such as customer service, student development, and teamwork via trainings and retreats.
Contributes to services and strategies for retention and recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students.
Develops and implements effective marketing strategies to engage students and promote non‑student memberships.
Collaborates with other university departments and outside agencies in areas such as Health & Human Performance, Athletics, Financial Affairs, Emergency Management, University Police, and Student Engagement.
Collaborates with civic and educational groups to design and deliver appropriate programs.
Liaises with campus departments and the local community.
Interprets, updates, and enforces policies and procedures to ensure compliance with national, state, and university regulations.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience/Knowledge/Skills: Ten years of related, progressive campus recreation experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Must be able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education / Skills / Experience Master’s degree in a related field such as Recreation, Kinesiology, or Sports Management.
Supervision Of Others Directly supervises 2 Associate Directors and 1 GA of Data Analytics; indirectly supervises 8 full‑time staff, 2 GAs, and 120 student employees.
Work Environment
Office and recreation center environment.
No smoking.
Low to moderate noise.
Local, regional, and national travel as applicable.
Evening and weekend work as required.
Physical Demands
Sitting at a desk or table for at least 50% of the workday.
Standing or moving for at least 50% of the workday.
Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement while operating computer equipment.
