Sales Engineer

Overview

This position is safety-sensitive due to the nature of the business and heavy industrial market. Based in NC, this role will work directly with customers to develop solutions and drive specification and commercialization while expanding current territories. The person will apply a hands-on, problem-solving, technical approach to application development, and will build pipeline opportunities while closing existing ones to accelerate growth in North America.

Responsibilities

Develop in-depth understanding of Kolsterising and other S3P technology features and benefits, applying them in target industries at the OEM level where possible.

Drive S3P sales to meet budget and strategic plan revenue/profit targets.

Maintain regular follow-up with customers on projects, driving their specification of the process and the commercialization of customer programs.

Grow the project pipeline and develop business with a hands-on approach through customer presentations, processing trials, and regular contact with technical staff at the customer.

Work directly with customers to develop viable material choices and designs utilizing Kolsterising and other S3P treatments.

Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to develop answers to technical product questions and support scale-up and commercialization.

Present technology to technical groups and organizations and establish Bodycote as the surface hardening subject matter expert in the SS industry.

Develop and execute strategic market plans to promote Kolsterising across market segments.

Collate and obtain competitor intelligence to understand the technical, operational, and economic strengths and limitations of other surface hardening providers and competing technologies.

Manage contractual agreements and ensure compliance with existing customers; negotiate terms with the VP Global Sales and Business Development S3P as appropriate to underpin long-term relationships and sustained sales revenue.

Maintain and develop cross-functional relationships with key decision makers to maximize visibility of new sales opportunities and positionBodycote as the preferred solution for surface hardening SS.

Develop and maintain technical marketing literature to market key attributes and educate customers on our processes.

Report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, and accept constructive criticism.

Handle proprietary and third-party information ethically and professionally.

Travel +60%.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or a similar field.

This position requires ITAR compliance; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Hands-on technical development skills with stainless steel (preferred but not required), mechanical, and functional parts.

Ability to translate customer application requirements into product performance attributes; inventive, creative, and problem-solving mindset.

Proactive and frequent interface with customers and other Bodycote personnel on project status.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong working capability with PC tools (Excel, PowerPoint, CRM, etc.).

Preferred Skills

Familiar with stage-gate (or similar) product development processes and R&D project management.

Experience with key target segments and customers such as Semiconductor, Medical devices, industrial fluid handling, and food processing equipment.

Physical & Mental Demands

Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods in an office/industrial environment.

Manual dexterity for data entry.

Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach.

Ability to lift 25–30 lbs.

May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity.

Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.

Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Visual acuity to read documents and computer screens.
