Who We Are And What We Do The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety. The department manages and operates 14 state prisons housing approximately 21,000 offenders, supervises about 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community correction, and operates six Day Reporting/Community Resource Centers across the state. The department is fully accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Job Overview The TDOC Special Agent position is assigned to the Office of Investigations and Conduct (OIC), responsible for pursuing and apprehending absconders within TDOC jurisdiction. The Special Agent has statewide law enforcement authority to conduct criminal and administrative investigations, detain, and arrest individuals for offenses related to TDOC.

Key Responsibilities

Visit Community Supervision offices to serve outstanding criminal warrants and summons.

Prepare affidavits for criminal search warrants and administrative subpoenas.

Make arrests.

Assist other law enforcement agencies by providing information and supporting criminal investigations.

Appear in court to give testimony.

Respond immediately to major crimes and incidents, including unexpected overtime and potential overnight trips.

Be on call 24 hours / 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.

Prepare clear and accurate written reports and be proficient with Microsoft Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a police officer, correctional officer, or probation/parole officer.

Tennessee POST certification is preferred.

Candidate must be willing and able to complete a certified law‑enforcement training academy if not already completed.

Substitution Of Experience For Education

Experience performing criminal investigation work in a government setting, law enforcement, professional criminal law, or a similar related field may substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
