Senior Paralegal Employment Type: Full-Time Department: Legal

Overview CGS is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal to join a fast-moving, extremely active in‑house government legal team. The role supports the litigation portfolio, including eDiscovery, workflow management, and attorney support.

Responsibilities

Prepares a variety of technical legal documents that are characteristically complex in format.

Reviews incoming documents and material, considers the nature and status of the case involved.

Prepares indictments, arrest warrants, summonses, true bills, motions, orders, non‑disclosure applications, plea agreements, grand jury and trial subpoenas, and legal memoranda.

Obtains required information from criminal case files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources to include in legal documents before submitting to the appropriate AUSA for review.

Ensures recurring legal documents conform to local court rules and style/format guidelines.

Assists attorneys in preparing for trial by compiling trial and witness notebooks, preparing and organizing trial exhibits, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists.

Coordinates with victim/witness specialists to ensure adherence to departmental guidelines, and notifies case agents and office staff of victim/witness issues.

Uses original and online legal resources including Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis to verify legal citations and statutory references, and researches to confirm accuracy.

Proofreads, edits, and revises legal briefs.

Electronically files legal documents with the U.S. District Court using the CM/ECF system.

Develops and organizes tables of contents and indices to briefs, lists cited cases, opinions, and miscellaneous references.

Composes original correspondence requiring knowledge of legal procedures and terminology, transmits proposed orders to the court, requests extensions of time, and advises on actions taken.

Scans, inputs, and links case-related materials into electronic discovery databases, manages those databases, uploads/downloads documents and materials from law enforcement partners, and manages discovery processing and production.

Proficiently bates‑stamps and redacts discovery materials using Adobe Acrobat, employs discovery processing techniques using IPRO Eclipse.

Sends continuing discovery to defense counsel as directed by the assigned AUSA.

Maintains electronic case files, enters data in the case management system, calendars deadlines, and prepares conflict‑of‑interest and opening forms in the electronic case file.

Qualifications

Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study.

At least two years of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.

At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.

Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and research resources.

Excellent written and oral communication skills; thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

Hands‑on familiarity with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

Hands‑on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

Ability to deliver high‑quality work under extreme pressure.
