Job Description / Position Summary
C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking an experienced and dependable Gas Distribution Foreman to lead crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas distribution systems. This position requires strong leadership, hands‑on field experience, and the ability to perform physical labor in outdoor environments. The ideal candidate will be committed to safety, quality, and production while ensuring projects are completed efficiently and correctly. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and develop crews of 3–8+ employees on gas distribution pipeline projects Plan and coordinate daily job activities, including crew assignments, equipment usage, and material needs Perform and oversee all phases of gas pipeline installation including trenching, pipe laying, fusion, tie‑ins, testing, and restoration Work alongside the crew performing physical labor while maintaining oversight of productivity and quality Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, compactors, and other machinery as needed Read and interpret blueprints, job specifications, grade stakes, and utility locates Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and client specifications Identify job site hazards and enforce safe work practices to maintain a strong safety culture Maintain awareness of underground utilities and ensure safe excavation practices Communicate daily with Superintendents, Project Managers, inspectors, and crew members regarding job progress and issues Complete required documentation including daily reports, safety reports, and production tracking Train, mentor, and hold crew members accountable for performance, safety, and attendance Coordinate traffic control setups and ensure proper work zone safety when required Troubleshoot field issues and make decisions to keep projects moving efficiently Ensure all crew members maintain current certifications, Operator Qualifications (OQs), and required training Travel as required, including overnight stays, extended hours, and weekend work Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of experience in gas pipeline construction required Foreman or Lead Operator experience preferred Fusion experience preferred High school diploma or GED required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of underground utilities, locator markings, and pipeline construction practices Ability to safely operate equipment around crew members and existing infrastructure Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills Ability to problem solve and make decisions in fast‑paced environments Strong understanding of safety regulations and job site hazard awareness Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic Employment Requirements
Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I‑9 requirements Ability to pass drug test and background check Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload Must be 18 years of age Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding labor including lifting, bending, and climbing Frequent standing, walking, and working in trench and excavation environments Ability to work in confined spaces and around heavy equipment Capability to work in demanding outdoor construction environments Work Environment
Outdoor construction job sites in varying weather conditions Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, noise, and underground utilities Fast‑paced environment requiring constant awareness of surroundings and safety hazards Schedule/Travel Requirements
