The Marketing & Communications Manager works collaboratively with the organization's executives, employees and consultants in leading the organization toward its long-term vision of being the premier advocate, advisor and booster of business in the area. An employee in this role is responsible for ensuring the organization fulfills its core mission by developing strategy, monitoring performance and ensuring fiscal responsibility, and is typically unsupervised in the performance of his/her job. The Marketing & Communication Manager is an exempt level position, and is expected to act as a primary ambassador of the organization's message.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
- Provides confidential support to the organization, including providing assistance in the development and maintenance of the annual business plan. Through the organization’s committee structure and an annual review process, ensures this plan reflects the current needs of the membership and supports the organization’s mission statement and long-range strategies.
- Develop and Manage Communications Strategic Plan.
- Responsible for the overall marketing and branding as an organization.
- Work to insure the editorial content, design, production, distribution and revenue streams for all printed and/or virtual communications vehicles.
- Direct all public relations activities that generate media interest and ensure regular contact with media and appropriate responses to media.
- Manages social media with the assistance of the Events Coordinator.
- Establish and ensure adherence to the organizations standards and policies across all collateral and marketing mediums.
- Work with Director of Member Relations to ensure all retention processes are integrated and strategic, support strategic objectives, enhance brand position, and adhere to organization standards and effective expenditures of resources.
- Consistently monitor the market for strategic partnership opportunities, as well as for potential threats or competitive information.
- Working with the Events Coordinator, this position will be responsible for all aspects of marketing for events and training programs to ensure event and training attendance goals are met through promotional marketing campaigns.
- Prepares and distributes news releases, media alerts and other announcements to gain positive media attention.
- Support to the Customer Service and Office Liaison in assisting Board of Directors and Board committees and task forces including attendance of meetings, as well as preparation and distribution of meeting packets, agendas, minutes and other materials, as needed.
- Responsible for working with President/CEO in the production of the Board of Directors’ and Committee Chair Handbook and any other new publication or manual.
- Assists the President in maintaining a dialogue with the membership to discuss organizational direction and purpose.
- Responsible for establishing components of the overall marketing budget.
- Directs development of membership and organization-image materials and publication necessary to attract, retain and serve members.
- Continually "sell" the organization and seeks to motivate and influence others on the positive attributes of involvement.
- Cultivate and maintain an extensive knowledge of all programs, services, initiatives and activities.
- Work across departmental lines to ensure delivery of services to prospects and members are seamless.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in journalism, business administration or related field or the equivalent in acquired on-the-job experience
Experience: Minimum five years of experience in writing/editing professional-level market-driven publications and printed materials, preferably in a non-profit or similar environment.
Skills:
- Ability to identify and resolve problems independently and promptly.
- Ability to work collaboratively, explaining issues in need of resolution, discussing potential actions and suggesting practical, researched resolutions.
- Must have and utilize excellent communication written and verbal skills.
- Strong communications and public relations skills coupled with the ability to influence others in a positive manner
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meeting all deadlines, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent public relation skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures; ability to operate general office equipment, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop faxing, Internet and email applications on a networked computer
