Collections Specialist

Collections Specialist
role is about more than collections, it’s about helping members navigate financial challenges while protecting the integrity of the Credit Union. The
Collections Specialist
is responsible for managing delinquent accounts, working directly with members to identify solutions, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and internal policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Contact members regarding delinquent accounts via phone and written communication. Work collaboratively with members to develop repayment plans, extensions, or other loss mitigation solutions. Review account history and recommend appropriate collection actions. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all collection activities. Monitor delinquency reports and prioritize accounts based on risk and aging. Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including FDCPA and internal policies. Coordinate with internal departments (lending, member service, accounting) to resolve account issues. Recommend charge-offs, repossessions, or legal action when necessary. Provide exceptional member service while maintaining professionalism in difficult situations. Assist with process improvements to enhance collections efficiency and member experience.
Position Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. 1–3 years of collections, lending, or financial services experience preferred. Knowledge of collection practices, regulations, and compliance standards. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and core banking or collections systems (e.g., Symitar, Akuvo, etc.)
