
Advanced Coding Specialist II

Job Summary
The Advanced Coding Specialist is responsible for day‑to‑day tasks related to applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing for all inpatient and outpatient encounters while maintaining data integrity within medical records and other facility systems. This role also manages the exchange of information between Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) and designated practice management facilities.

Required Qualifications
One of the following certifications by AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.
Minimum of six years experience as a coder, including experience in inpatient coding.
Preferred Qualifications
Hospital inpatient coding experience.
Inpatient Coding Microcredential certification.
Strong interpersonal, customer‑service, verbal and written communication skills, and ability to interact with different departments and practitioners.
Experience with Microsoft Office products, EHR software, and encoder systems, and ability to perform clerical duties and repetitive detailed tasks.
Ability to work independently, shift priorities, and demonstrate decision‑making ability.
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, critical thinking, and understanding of healthcare documentation.
Mandatory Education High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate.
