Strategic Planning & Operations Director (Chief of Staff to SVP Engineering) What you will do At Amgen, our mission to serve patients drives everything we do. Within Global Engineering, this role sits at the center of shaping and delivering on that mission—enabling a ~$2.5B global capital portfolio, advancing sustainability commitments, environmental health safety, and delivering world class facilities and lab services to drive operational excellence across the enterprise. The Strategic Planning & Operations (SPO) team serves as the internal strategy and transformation engine for Engineering. As a Director on this team—and Chief of Staff to the SVP of Engineering—you will act as a trusted advisor and force multiplier to senior leadership, driving alignment, execution, and measurable business outcomes. This is a high-impact, highly visible role operating at the intersection of strategy, execution, and leadership enablement. Executive Leadership Enablement (Chief of Staff) Serve as a strategic advisor and extension of the SVP of Engineering

Orchestrate priorities, decision-making, and alignment across the Engineering Senior Leadership Team (ELT)

Own and continuously improve the Engineering operating rhythm, including ELT meetings, strategy sessions, and executive forums

Lead development of CEO staff, Board of Directors, and external-facing materials

Ensure effective governance frameworks that enable speed, clarity, and accountability

Strategy & Transformation Lead the development, articulation, and execution of Engineering’s strategy, goals, and objectives

Translate strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps and measurable outcomes

Drive enterprise-wide transformation initiatives that improve performance, scalability, and resilience

Partner with senior leaders to identify and solve complex, high-impact business challenges

Business Performance & Insights Own the Engineering business performance system, including KPIs, dashboards, and reporting

Generate actionable insights using data and analytics to inform executive decisions

Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, capital efficiency, and operational performance

Leverage technology and digital tools to enhance visibility and decision-making

Portfolio & Program Leadership Lead and deliver critical, cross-functional initiatives aligned to Engineering priorities

Structure ambiguous problems into clear workstreams and drive execution to results

Manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously while maintaining quality and speed

Influence and align stakeholders across functions, geographies, and levels of the organization

What success looks like (12–18 months) Established a high-performing operating rhythm for the Engineering leadership team

Delivered measurable improvements in business performance, productivity, and/or capital efficiency

Successfully led one or more enterprise-level transformation initiatives

Elevated data-driven decision making across Engineering

Built strong trust and credibility with the SVP and senior leadership as a go-to strategic advisor

What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The organized professional we seek is a leader with these qualifications. Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree and 4 years of business analysis, strategy, transformation experience OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of business analysis, strategy, transformation experience OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of business analysis, strategy, transformation experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years’ experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above Preferred Qualifications: Must-have experience: Proven experience advising and influencing senior executives on strategy and business decisions

Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes

Strong problem-solving capabilities with the ability to operate in ambiguity and drive clarity

Highly desirable: Experience in management consulting (e.g., Big 4, MBB) or internal strategy/operations roles

Experience within biotech, pharmaceuticals, or engineering-intensive industries

Strong business and financial acumen, including facilities and capital project environments

Experience with organizational transformation and change management

Additional strengths: Executive presence with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills

Ability to influence without authority across all levels of the organization

Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)

Agile, versatile leader capable of flexing across strategic and operational domains

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
