Job Title: Trades Specialist (Electrician)/Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee
Location: 9052 River Road, Pho, NY 13135 (Onondaga County)
Employment Type: Full‑time, Permanent
Salary Range: $23.66 to $32.98 hourly
Workweek: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, 40 hours per week (no flex‑time, overtime, compressed week, or telecommuting)
Responsibilities
Perform skilled work at the journey‑level in the maintenance, repair and installation of canal floating plant and building electrical systems and equipment.
Plan layout and install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
Install, maintain, and repair generators, motors, lighting, signal systems, and electrical equipment.
Repair and test electrical work and devices.
Repair and maintain signal controls, lights, pumping equipment, signs, oil burners and other mechanisms.
Act as a troubleshooter on electrical repairs.
Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components using standard instruments.
Conduct a program of preventative maintenance.
Maintain navigation lighting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge and understanding of AC/DC power.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License appropriate to the type of vehicles and equipment operated, may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full‑time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson, equivalent to an apprenticeship or similar program; OR successful completion of the two‑year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two‑year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program such as the NYS CSEA‑P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
Associate’s degree in electrical construction or related field encouraged for full performance level.
Successful completion of the NYS CSEA‑P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program (288 hours trade instruction, 45 each math/communications, 15 schematic reading).
