Rye Country Day School has an anticipated opening for an Associate Director of College Counseling beginning in August 2026. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. The Associate Director of College Counseling reports to the Director of College Counseling and will assist the college counseling team in educating and supporting students and their families through the college application process by helping to deliver thoughtful, nuanced, and individualized counseling to all students.
Specific responsibilities include:
Working closely with the senior class of approximately 110 students and developing college counseling relationships with Upper School students in grades 9-11
Writing personalized letters of recommendation for 30-35 students each year
Advising and supporting students and families through the financial aid application process
Organizing and leading meetings with students and families on specific topics related to the college application process
Team teaching the College Counseling Office’s Junior Seminar curriculum to students
Building relationships and maintaining strong professional ties with college admission professionals and college counseling colleagues
Supporting the office in hosting over 125 admissions visitors every year
Attending regional and national conferences, visiting colleges and universities, and networking with admissions professionals and peers
Working closely with RCDS employees and other RCDS community members to best support students and families
Actively contributing to 12th Grade class initiatives
Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as limited availability during some breaks
Desired qualifications and skills:
Bachelor's degree
Five (5) or more years of experience working in an admissions office and/or a high school setting
A genuine desire to work with adolescents and their families
A deep understanding of the college application process, including its procedures and requirements
Strong interpersonal skills; a positive attitude, confidence, dedication, flexibility, and commitment to a team based approach
An understanding of the history of college admissions as well as a contextual grasp of current trends in the field
Clear and confident communication and presentation skills
Strong written and oral communication skills, including use of technology
An ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information
The ability to develop and implement strategic and effective counseling in support of a wide range of students
A respect for internal and external deadlines
A commitment to lifetime learning and professional and personal integrity
A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members allowing for the ability to connect with the many constituencies of the RCDS community
