Associate Athletic Director Sports Communications
Eastern Connecticut State University, a public liberal arts university located in Willimantic, Connecticut, seeks a qualified candidate for the full‑time, 12‑month Associate Athletic Director Sports Communications. The position reports to the Director of Athletics and offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Responsibilities
Promote and publicize the comprehensive athletics program, including media relations, statistics, digital content creation, and athletics website maintenance.
Develop and oversee a comprehensive media strategy to highlight athletic and academic achievements, foster fan engagement, and aid recruiting.
Manage budgetary development and monitoring for the sports communication office.
Lead game‑day communication operations and supervise the assistant director, student workers, media/live‑stream interns, and photographers.
Coordinate live video streaming of athletic broadcasts and manage press‑box operations.
Handle significant weekend and evening hours as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Sports Management, Journalism, or a related field.
At least 4 years of media relations or sports communication experience at the collegiate level.
Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., NCAA Live Stats, PrestoStats).
Proficiency in game‑day operations and press‑box management.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Experience with website maintenance (currently Sidearm).
Social media expertise.
Experience live streaming athletics broadcasts.
Prior supervisory experience in a collegiate setting.
Benefits The Associate Athletic Director Sports Communications is compensated at the Administrator IV salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
