Assistant Editor/Senior Reporter - The Aspen Times
Tahoe Daily Tribune, Aspen, CO, United States
Senior Reporter/Assistant Editor
The Aspen Times seeks a senior reporter/assistant editor to help lead the newsroom. This is a hybrid role with roughly equal focus on reporting, copy editing, and print production, making it ideal for a journalist who thrives both in the field and on the desk.
While reporting will cover general assignment, business, and community news, a significant portion of this role centers on shaping the final product—editing stories for clarity, accuracy, and tone, and playing a key role in the design and production of the print edition. On designated production days, you will take the lead in copy editing and page design, working closely with reporters, photographers, and designers to build pages, refine headlines, and ensure a polished, engaging newspaper.
Experience with Adobe InDesign is strongly preferred, though candidates with a willingness to learn and an eye for layout and visual storytelling are encouraged to apply. This position is a strong next step for a seasoned reporter looking to grow into an editing and production leadership role. Ideal candidates will bring at least three years of daily reporting experience, along with solid news judgment and attention to detail.
Outside of the job, you’ll live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, with access to mountains, cycling, hiking, world‑class skiing, whitewater rafting, and gold medal fishing. Our office is located just two blocks from the Aspen Mountain Silver Queen Gondola.
Benefits
