Job Overview
The Vacaville Chamber of Commerce (VCC) is looking for a highly motivated, outgoing, and engaging person to maintain and grow our membership, and generate revenue streams through fundraising and business activities. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will conduct membership sales and retention efforts, assist with the development and marketing of member benefits and services, and support implementation of Chamber events and activities. The BDM is integral to our operations, self‑motivated, enjoys interacting with a variety of people, and is willing to be part of a cross‑trained team that supports each other’s duties and the organization’s goals.

Essential Functions

Work with the President/CEO to develop and implement a comprehensive membership growth strategy aligned with the Chamber's mission and revenue goals.

Initiate new membership sales through cold calls, business license reports, and other leads to achieve VCC membership goals.

Maintain a high membership retention rate through frequent contact with existing members, including contacting overdue accounts and working with them on a plan to retain their membership.

Serve as the primary point of contact for new members and engage them in VCC activities.

Serve as the primary point of contact for existing members, focusing on understanding and fulfilling members’ needs to retain their membership.

Conduct member orientations for groups or individuals, showcasing membership benefits and deepening connections.

Act as liaison for VCC committees assigned by the President/CEO, including Ambassador and Membership committees.

Coordinate and execute ribbon cuttings, mixers, and ambassador activities.

Assist the President/CEO in crafting sponsorship packages, acquiring sponsors for events and programs, and ensuring sponsor benefit fulfillment.

Keep current and detailed records of membership calls, contacts, leads, appointments, and member benefit fulfillment using VCC’s CRM program, ChamberMaster.

Collaborate closely with staff across all functional areas to provide valuable information and deepen member engagement to increase retention and generate new member and sponsor opportunities.

Support VCC events and activities through promoting ticket sales, generating sponsors, and identifying opportunities for member participation.

Prepare and submit a monthly Activity Report to the President/CEO.

Meet or exceed established revenue goals and prepare a monthly Commission Report for President/CEO approval.

Attend staff meetings as scheduled.

Perform other reasonable and agreed upon duties as assigned by the President/CEO.

Desired Core Competencies and Qualifications

Relationship‑based sales experience; membership sales experience a plus.

Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of Vacaville businesses and the community.

Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems.

Successful project management experience and excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.

Experience working with CRM programs (ChamberMaster a plus).

Proficiency with PC‑based desktop publishing software (Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace).

Ability to move 50 pounds.

Current California driver’s license.

U.S. citizenship required, plus the ability to pass a background investigation.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Compensation

Salary is $2,000 - $3,400 a month (depending on hours: 20‑32 hours a week), plus commission.

Position is an exempt, at‑will employee.

Flexible schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional required evenings, weekends, mornings, and mandatory office hours.

No insurance benefits are available.

Paid vacation, sick and holiday leave are provided commensurate with the schedule.
