Junior Level Appian Developer

Duties and Essential Responsibilities
Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of Appian applications under the supervision of senior developers and technical leads.
Learn and apply Appian development best practices, including Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), to deliver high quality solutions.
Collaborate with business analysts, subject matter experts, and end users to gather and document functional and technical requirements.
Build user-focused features aligned with USWDS and Digital Services Playbook for accessible UX.
Support the implementation of system integrations with RESTful APIs, databases, and third-party artifacts.
Contribute to documentation of application components, technical specifications, and system design artifacts.
Engage in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives to support iterative development and continuous improvement.
Assist in configuring Appian records, reports, and interfaces to support business workflows and data visibility.
Participate in code reviews and peer programming sessions to improve code quality and promote learning.
Monitor application performance and logs during development to proactively identify inefficiencies or issues.
Learn and follow secure coding practices and federal compliance requirements, including Section 508 accessibility standards.
Maintain version control using Git or other tools to ensure traceability and proper change management.
Attend Appian training sessions and pursue certifications to enhance technical skills and platform knowledge.
Technical Skills & Expertise
1-3 years (Junior) or 5-6 years (Mid-Level) of progressive experience in system design and development.
Basic to advanced knowledge of Appian development, depending on experience level.
Familiarity with SQL, APIs, and scripting languages.
Experience integrating various COTS products (Appian, Scala, Apache Spark, Java, Python, AWS services).
Hands‑on experience with database management systems (Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server) and SQL/PL SQL.
Expertise in Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN).
Experience leading facilitated sessions with subject matter experts for business data requirements.
3+ years leading Appian-based process re‑engineering for federal or public‑sector clients.
Minimum Education & Certifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
Certifications: Appian Certified Senior Developer
