Overview
Two anticipated vacancies currently exist for Directors on Assignment within the Division of Student Services of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This is a temporary position subject to renewal from the requesting district, with the exact length of assignment to be determined. Extensions are possible, but are not guaranteed. Positions will be located within Chester County & surrounding counties. Summary: The Director on Assignment will direct all educational aspects of special education and will develop and provide programs to address needs related to special education. The role provides leadership for the district and staff development in areas related to special education, oversees compliance with legal requirements, and offers staffing and caseload recommendations. The position manages day-to-day programming issues within the special education department, including budgetary decisions and student safety considerations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Evaluate supervisory staff performance and provide feedback that leads to positive changes in performance
- Direct the ongoing evaluation of the special education instructional programs within assignment to ensure high quality educational programs with sound curriculum and evidence-based practices
- Oversee the budgets for programs within areas of responsibility
- Resolve parent/school conflicts while maintaining the best interests of the student and providing high quality customer service to school districts
- Direct disciplinary action according to district policy, state, and federal regulations at programs
- Plan, execute, and evaluate professional development programs for staff to advance program initiatives and maintain best practice
- Ensure staff adherence to Federal, State, and local regulations and district policies and procedures
- Direct ongoing regular communication with staff including formal and informal communications at individual and group meetings and in classrooms
- Make proposals for new initiatives and directives as appropriate under changing policy and philosophies at the state and local levels and facilitate program enhancement using collaborative methods with customers including staff, parents, students, agencies, and school district administration
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Master's degree in educational leadership, special education, or other related field required; Doctorate preferred
- Five years of experience in the field of special education required
- Supervisory & leadership experience strongly preferred
- Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge in state & federal special education law
- Technical experience in staff development, supervision and leadership, special education budget development and management, curriculum and assessment & interagency collaboration
- Advanced training in all areas of special education, including work with populations with moderate to severe disabilities
- Experience in creating successful evidenced-based and fiscally sound programs for special education
Professional Certifications
- Supervisor of Special Education or Principal Certification required
- Active PDE Educational Instructional II Special Education PK-12, School Psychology PK-12 or related Certification required
Salary Range
: Administrator, Level E: $133,433 - $166,791/yr.
: Administrator, Level E: $137,969 - $172,462/yr.
- Placement on band is based on years of direct experience in a comparable role.
